Unboxing

The mattress ships directly to your door in a tall turquoise and white box. Weighing in at 115 pounds, the queen-sized Leesa Hybrid is quite heavy. Although it is possible to unbox it yourself, you should ideally have a partner to help with the task.

First, take the box to the room where you will set up the mattress. Unbox the bed on its side, near the foundation. Place the rolled-up mattress on a foundation, unroll it, and remove the outer and inner plastic wrapping. The memory foam mattress will gradually expand. The entire unboxing process takes only 15 minutes.

Fresh out of the box, the bed is relatively odor-free and releases minimal off-gassing smells that should dissipate quickly. Allow your mattress a couple of hours, or if possible, a few days to air off before sleeping on it. It will reach its maximum firmness and comfort level within the first month of use.

Selecting the appropriate base to support the Leesa Hybrid mattress can impact how it feels. The bed is designed to offer optimum comfort when set upon a flat, hard, and sturdy surface. Interior Construction

The 11-inch tall Leesa Hybrid mattress includes a soft, attractive cover with a grey striped design. This mattress consists of a five-layer inner design. The top layer is an inch and a half of latex-like polyurethane foam with a density of 3 pounds. It has a 13 IFD, which is firm for a top layer. It is dotted with pin core holes at the top and quick responsiveness.

Below that is an inch and a half layer of viscoelastic memory foam at a 12 IFD and 4-pound density. It is a much softer foam than the top layer. There are two 1-inch transition layers of 1.8-pound polyurethane foam with a 32 IFD that bookend the pocket coils sandwiched between them. This is the 6-inch inner 14.5-gauge pocketed spring internal coil unit.

There are a total of 1,000 coils in the mattress. There are also two rows of smaller coils around the bed’s perimeter that are designed to give the mattress a firm edge. The inner coils, which comprise the majority of the mattress’ surface, are slightly bigger in diameter. This reinforces the border of the bed and makes it more robust.

The Advantages of Pocket Springs

Inside a pocket spring mattress, separate springs are sewn into their own fabric pockets. A pocket spring mattress like the Leesa Hybrid has more springs than other mattresses. Each spring functions independently, allowing it to offer superior support where you most need it.

Back Support and Pressure Relief

You can expect excellent back support with good spinal alignment when lying supine on the Leesa Hybrid. The lumbar region is well-cushioned, and the hips sink into the mattress just enough to keep the lower back in a proper neutral position. It is a mattress that will fit the needs of most back sleepers. In the stomach position, you will not sink too far into the mattress to cause the overarching of the back. The mattress does a great job of preventing that. As a result, the Leesa Hybrid is an excellent bed for any stomach sleeper, including heavier sleepers.

Heavyweight sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds will find that the Leesa Hybrid is perfect for back sleeping. Individuals who are over 300 pounds may prefer a more supportive mattress overall. Likewise, heavyweight side sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds can expect sufficient pressure relief on the Leesa Hybrid, whereas those who weigh more than that should select a mattress more tailor-made for their weight range. Leesa Hybrid is probably not sturdy enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who may notice their hips dip into the bed leading to poor spinal alignment.

On the Leesa Hybrid, lightweight back and stomach sleepers will benefit from plenty of pressure relief as well as proper spinal support. Side sleepers may experience some discomfort. As an average-weight sleeper, my shoulders can’t quite get deep enough into the mattress when lying on my side. Therefore, the top of the spine points slightly upward in this position instead of a horizontal position. The mattress firmness does prevent you from really getting down into the mattress in your pointy parts. Despite this, there is no sensation of pressure points. The top three layers provide excellent pressure relief in the side position.

Responsiveness

Because the Leesa mattress combines coils with memory foam, it bounces and has that melting into the mattress feel. There is some buoyancy to the mattress’s top layer when it is lightly pressed with the hands. This quality is related to that latex-like foam upper region. Overall, when reclining, you don’t get that slowly melting into the bed feel as you would with a traditional memory foam mattress. When plopping down with full weight, the springs provide a nice bounce, although not to the same extent of spring back as in a connected coil mattress. This is normal, as pocketed coils don’t generally bounce quite as much.

Cushioning Depth

Some people prefer to sleep more “in” their mattress, and others prefer to sleep more “on” their mattress. The cushioning depth will vary depending on the sleeper’s height, weight, and sleeping position. The Leesa Hybrid has an overall shallow cushioning depth, which means you will not get that feeling of being cradled or hugged by your bed. It is an excellent fit for people who like the feeling of floating on top of their mattress.

The shallow cushioning depth also means that the Leesa Hybrid mattress is not restrictive and allows easy repositioning. You won’t feel like you’re stuck in a hole while sleeping on this mattress.

Motion Isolation

The Leesa Hybrid mattress does not transfer motion easily and performs better than a standard memory foam mattress in this category. It has excellent motion isolation, and if you sleep with a partner, you will not wake up if they jostle their side of the mattress to get up or adjust their sleeping position. This makes the mattress an accommodating mattress for couples and light sleepers.

Temperature Regulation

Another important consideration for some people is temperature or overheating, particularly if a mattress contains memory foam. Overheating is unlikely with this mattress because it will not conform to the body, despite having memory foam. The perforations in the top layer will create a little bit of airflow, and the pocketed coils allow for a lot of air flow.

Edge Support

The border coils reinforce the structure of the Leesa Hybrid, leading to a high degree of edge support. You can sleep all night along the fortified edge of the bed without the feeling that you might roll-off. Sitting alongside the edge of the mattress leads to only minimal dipping.

Maintenance and Durability

Longevity matters when you are shopping for a mattress. Leesa is very open about the foam densities used in every layer of the Leesa mattress, and the high-density layers are more enduring than the foams used in less expensive mattresses. As a result, you can expect the Leesa Hybrid mattress to last approximately ten years before you need to purchase a new one. You do not need to flip the Leesa Hybrid mattress at any time, and it is not recommended.

Unfortunately, you cannot place the cover in the laundry, but you may spot clean your mattress with warm water and detergent.
